Pencil Plus
Graphic Design
Brady, Nick, and Sydney, and I first worked on the graphic for our project. Once we had came up with our product, we each sat down at a computer and worked with different fonts that might look good with the Pencil Plus. We decided on Noteworthy. Back again to the computers. Now each of us worked on a logo, word mark, and icon. During this part of the project we really had to work together to make sure each of these items were how we wanted them. Then, we divided and conquered the rest of the rest of our design projects. Brady to the website. Sydney took the banner for the website. Nick did the ad. I worked on the advertisement. To the left are screenshots, of the advertisement and icon from the product's website, which I created. In this rotation I wouldn't do anything differently. We each got our jobs done well and efficiently.
Video
After a week in that rotation, we moved onto video production. Here we came up with the idea of having a struggling student who gets visited by the Pencil Plus fairy. The Pencil Plus fairy would give the student a pencil that would help them spell. Here we had different roles. Brady became the director/ story boarder. He was perfect for the job and never complained. Nick was an actor in the commercial, the teacher that gives the student a bad grade. Sydney was the Pencil Plus fairy. When she wasn't doing that she was helping Brady set up the shots. I was the bad spelling student. It was actually a perfect role for me because I can't spell. Thank goodness for auto-correct!
During this rotation communication was very important. Somedays people would be late, others would forget their clothes, but in the end it all came together. We took must of the rotation filming because of these problems. We had one day to do the editing. I'm a very slow editor. So, i came in after school. In this potation of the big project, I would like to change the amount of communication we had. If we would have let each other know what we needed done, not just slid over the idea and not talk about it, we would've had more time to edit. We also would have been less rushed.
Animation
Animation was a different experience than the two others. The first two days each of us worked on the design of what our product would look like in Google Sketch Up. Sydney's and my pencil needed up looking really bad. While Nick's and Brady's pencils were out of this world. If Nick had a little more time and really want to put the work into making it amazing, we could have used his. We used Brady's that was just spectacular. The fact that he did only do it in two days made that much better. The next three days, Brady worked on different colors for the pencil, I made the packaging, Sydney work on 3-D text to add to our animation, and Nick made the setting where our animation would take place.
Earlier this year we had worked with Google Sketch Up on a different project. During that project we had come across a problem: When you connect shapes, they are connect and you can't really move it. During our Pencil Plus project, we learned how to fix that. You make a group of the object that you want to stay connected. When you add the on top of another group they don't connect. It made everything so much easier! Nick had a lot of extra time on his hands. The change I would make would have him work on the website with that time. By the end the website was just something we had to put together quickly.
