Wait... What's brunch?
I had the neat opportunity to go see DC's "Justice League" in MX4D with my entertainment video class. This technology added motion to your seat. There were smells. This technology had the ability to make it windy, snowy, rainy, etc. MX4D is a great way to combat the loss of revenue in-home theaters have created for movie theaters.
But, is it the best and only solution?
To begin, this technology in movie theaters is new. That means with time, just like anything, it will get better the longer it lasts. This, however, was not the only time I have experienced 4D. Universal Studios offer rides that happen in 4D. Given these aren't the same as movies and last about 7 minutes, I still find the rides so much better than my experience with this movie.
The beginning was very rough for me. I haven't seen "Bat Man vs. Superman" or "Wonder Woman". I was really trying to pay attention so that I wouldn't be confused near the end. When Bat Man is first introduced, the main problem is also introduce. But it's in a fighting scene. And your chair is moving for the first time. And I didn't know why Bat Man was doing some of the things his was doing. For me, I needed to be slowly brought into the 4D effect because a lot was happening all at the same time.
Next, the seats were uncomfortable.
Furthermore, one quality that the rides might have over the movie is that the chair you are sitting in is almost like a character itself. Maybe a solution to making 4D better is having the camera be a character. I'm not sure what that entails. If any of you know of a movie where the camera is a character, let me know!
Last year, I remember virtual reality was the next step in movie watching or 360 degree video. I was in New York this past summer and I got to experience this. The video was a promo for "The Mummy" that I watched. And it was super cool. They sat us in our own individual chairs and gave us glasses. The viewer had the ability to look around when they wanted. Now, I forgot if wind blow when wind was needed. But, who's to say that couldn't happen.
On another note: I really enjoyed the movie. I enjoy watching movies with people in e-Comm because we can call out problems or shots or say that was cool or that shot was so pretty, etc. and we will understand what's being said.
For instance (if any of you are film critics), I felt that the movie needed more wide and establishing shots to help clarify the scene. However, the Director and Script Writers did a good job with character development (some better than others but good). Although, there were some awkward lines that could be blamed on the actors. My favorite actor (and character) will forever be (the DC) will be the Flash. If you watch the movie, he says a line and that's where I pull my title from. But it's so funny so I'm not going to explain it any more.
