Let's talk about Video
I’ve learned so much during my year in Explore Audio and
Video. I remember one of my first goals in this class. It was, “How do I add
sound in my videos? And how did I make it sound natural?” In Convergence
Journalism, I learned about how to mike people and do voiceovers. The past
semester we have learned different ways to capture sound. In entrainment, you
don’t want to see the mike. Then the question occurs, “How do you capture clean
sound without a lot of Nat noise?” The groups I was apart of always filmed in a
quite place. But by being an actress in “Detention” and the boom crew in the
“Potent Rock,” I become familiar with the new piece of equipment- the boom.
The group of people I worked with also impacted how I
learned. I the beginning of the year, I got to pick my partner most of the
time. Even when I didn’t, I ended up with someone I trusted. During the second
semester, I didn’t want to work with my click anymore. I didn’t like the fact
that there was the click. So when Mr. Cooper picked groups, I said I didn’t
mind what group I got in. In “Beyond the Attack,” I loved the people in my
group. They all loved to film and worked great together. In “Lil’ Johnny,” we
didn’t work as well together. Half of the group didn’t get along with the other
half. We never had a plan on where to film. For the second act, the person who
was supposed to develop the script didn’t. During filming that become a huge
problem. I had to learn to work with different people- with was another one of
my goals- but sometimes we didn’t have the same end goal.
The five guarantees are communication, technical skills,
collaboration, leadership, and project management. When I first joined e-Comm,
I didn’t plan on going into this as a job. I did it as more of a hobby. And
trust me, my passion for video has grown so much. I now make videos outside of
school- and I know how! But this past year, I’ve learned so much more then just
how to edit videos. I’ve learned
different ways to response when things don’t go your way. I didn’t have much of
a different attitude towards the teachers we had after our old one left. Some
classmates did, however. This taught me the apporatie way to respond and deal
with people being disrespectful. I’ve also learned some leadership skills and
improved my communication.
While I’ve improved my leadership skill, they could be
stronger. My group for the 2ed and 3rd act wasn’t as focused I would
have liked. I didn’t know how to get them on track and not coming off as mean.
I was able to do it a little bit- enough to where we finished. Still, when we
were filming they would talk to each other and not work until someone made them
do it. But I know I’ve improved my editing skills! It also helps that I love
editing and putting videos together. I’m so excited for m=next year because I
will be able to edit more stories together.
Filming has differently become one of my favorite actives.
I’m going to try and take videos on my vacations this summer. Katie and I are
also planning to make a music video. I love the song and the idea that we have
for it. I will get to expand my leadership skills here. I will have to use all
the technical information. I find that knowledge helpful because it’s taught me
different shots to get along with editing.
The one thing I would change would be the group I work in
for the acts. I would have liked to work I a group that has the same high
standards for their videos as I do. I deserve an A in this class. Each time we
worked in Celtx, I took it seriously and wrote the required amount. Most of the
time, I went over three pages. I also story boarded for my group and edited the
second act. I have never played the worm game! I’ve never complained (well
besides this page) about the groups or about being my clothes if I’m acting in
a different group’s. I’ve made sure that our group gets along and agree with
the things we produced. Countless times, I’ve stayed a little bit into the
lunch time I get done what I needed to.
