Olathe NorthWest Blood Drive
My school, Olathe Northwest has an annual blood drive. Every year the e-Comm program has sent their sophomores in for their first backpack journalist story. That means we went into the room with a camera, microphone (if we choose) and maybe a notebook. We were all by ourselves, too! The first step to filming something is plan! Always plan! I looked up some information and some stats about blood drives. If I'll be honest, I really didn't find the point of it while I did it. But in later process I found it very helpful. I also looked at videos on YouTube and learned about what not to do and what to do.
We had about a week, maybe less, to do organization, script, and to edit. I had never had that quick of a deadline in my Video class. this tough me to use me time quickly. i have a way to over think things! This quick turn around time, made me realize that I don't need to spend multiple class periods on my script and organization but maybe one and a half. Each different class (there are three sophomore e-Comm video classes) either was good in getting interviews, or b-roll, maybe both. My teacher decided that we would shared the footage. I used a lot of other peoples interviews.
One of my interviews, the one about the work that STCO put into this project, is so quite. One thing I wish I did and I will apply to my next project, is to bring that microphone. I another thing I need to work on is my voice overs. They might be well written, but I don't say them very clearly. Another thing that totally slipped my mind, is the part where I say who I interviewed! I don't know why! That is always something I notice about ONW NOW! I want to see if in each story they match the lower thirds. I haven't figured out yet. If I were to do it again I would research more about my school's blood drive. I would also try to get some interview question in my head so I know what to ask when I can't look at my paper.
But I didn't do all things bad! I thought I got really good b-roll. I also think I know how to write a script.
